Friday 13th February 2026 Sussex Alerts - Lewes and Seahaven Police
Dear Residents,
Please find below the latest Sussex Alerts from Lewes and Seahaven Police.
Safer Internet Day 2026
Earlier this week Neighbourhood Youth Officer Parnell-Mace attended Chyngton Primary School in Seaford to give talks as part of Safer Internet Day 2026.
A number of sessions were held around online safety, including a presentation to year 4, lessons with two year 5 classes, and a more senior session with year 6 focussed on helping to keep children and young people stay safe online.
Topics included safety advice on social media platforms, as well as online bullying, misinformation, cyberflashing and sextortion.
Parents and carers of youngsters can find out more information and access a range of support tools to open up conversations with children/teens in their care by visiting the UK Safer Internet Centre here.
A huge thank you to the school for your hospitality, and to all the students being so actively engaged in the presentations.
Burglary alert
Following a number of reported burglaries in the last few days in areas of Seaford and Peacehaven, Police are advising residents to be sure to secure their home before going out, and take extra steps to help prevent burglary.
Items being targeted include personal items such as cash, and jewellery.
Opportunistic thieves often look for quick and easy access, so taking a moment to check your home is locked and that high value items are out of sight can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a target.
Getting into an ‘exit routine’ can also help ensure that you don’t forget obvious, important things, like not leaving your valuables near windows, or no lights on if it will be dark before you get home.
Follow our ‘exit routine’ guide online here.
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity around resident properties to police at the time, either by calling 101 or reporting online.
In an emergency or crime in action always call 999.
Road Safety Is Everyone’s Responsibility
We are proud to support a number of road safety initiatives across the district.
As part of Operation Downsway last week officers teamed up with East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service in Ringmer, to carry out safety stops and speak with road users about all things road safety following a number of road traffic collisions in the last few months.
ESFRS offered advice around collision causes, while police dealt with any offences identified, including those linked to the Fatal Five.
Following concerns from residents about excessing speeding in the village; officers also joined a local Community Speed Watch group (CSW) in the afternoon to support volunteers on their checks and observe speeding issues first hand.
Vehicles recorded over the limit will soon be contacted.
As always we thank partners and thank all of our CSW volunteers for their ongoing work to keep our roads safer.
We continue to encourage communities to report dangerous or anti-social driving online to ‘Operation Crackdown’ or via 101; all of your reports help shape Operation Downsway activity across local roads to help keep your communities safe.
Always call 999 in an emergency.
